Here’s What Happens When Women Decide to Call Themselves Beautiful
It’s quite interesting to see how women across the world actually perceive themselves. Evidence shows that women are less confident about their beauty and that they are their own biggest beauty critic. We are yet to see more women who are self-assured about their beauty as Dove’s latest campaign urges women to #ChooseBeautiful.
Dove’s new campaign aims at changing women’s mentality from classifying themselves as average to choosing beautiful. The way women depict themselves is dramatically different from how others perceive them. Over half of women globally agree that when it comes to how they look, they are their own worst beauty critic.
A research done by Dove about self esteem reveals that only 4% of women around the world consider themselves beautiful (up from 2% in 2004) . Only 11% of girls globally are comfortable using the word beautiful to describe themselves . 72% of girls feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful . 80% of women agree that every woman has something about her that is beautiful but do not see their own beauty. More than half (54%) of women globally agree that when it comes to how they look, they are their own worst beauty critic
In the film, women were given a challenge where they had to choose between two pathways which led to two doorways. One written ‘Average’ and the other , ‘Beautiful’. A lot of women chose to walk through the average door because they felt the beautiful door was out of their level.
