10 Ways On How To Deal With Migraines
We are in the middle of the summer season and a lot of people suffer from severe migraines, which are even made worse by the heat although it’s not the main cause. Most people don’t know how to deal with these migraines; they make it their thing and teach themselves to live with it. But there are ways that can help you reduce the pain and make you cope so that you can live your life fully and be able to perform to your best ability.
1. Healthy Life
Foods like strong cheese, chocolate, tomatoes and onions can trigger migraines, try to eliminate them from your diet and see if anything changes. Eat in moderation, keep a routine on how often you eat, don’t skip any meal especially breakfast.
2. Drink caffeinated beverages
Caffeine on its own can relieve migraine pains in the early stages, drink the caffeinated beverages but in moderation. Be careful to not drink a lot of caffeine because it can lead to withdrawal headaches later on.
3. Relieve emotional stress
Find ways to take some time for you and get away from stressful situations. Always unwind at the end of the day, be it reading your favorite book, a relaxing bath or a walk in the nature. Just avoid doing it excessively because it will still trigger the migraines.
4. Have a regular sleep plan
Your wake-up and sleeping time should be consistent, try and do it around the same time everyday even on weekends. If you take naps during the day, they should be short naps so that you don’t struggle sleeping at night.
5. Exercise regularly
Lack of fitness can trigger migraines; try exercise at least 30minutes every day. Being fit will help reduce the severe migraines. Always that if you suffer with migraines anything done excessively will act as a trigger. Don’t kill yourself with your workouts.
6. Know your triggers
Pay attention to days when you have the migraines, what time do they often start, what you are doing during the time and when they finish. By doing this you are able to identify what your triggers are and possibly change your daily life pattern to avoid them.
7. Practice prevention
For most women, they get migraines when they are close to their menstrual cycle. Take preventive medication when your time of the month is close. Check if your medication contains a lot of caffeine or other stimulants although they might be for migraine treatment they may affect your sleep.
8. Turn off your lights
Avoid bright lights and too much sound as it also triggers migraines. Try to relax in a dark room, with low or no sound; you can even try to sleep.
9. Try temperature therapy
Apply hot or cold compresses to your head or neck. Ice packs have a numbing effect, which may dull the sensation of pain. Warm showers can relax tense muscles. Also try neck and shoulder massages to alleviate muscle tension.
10. Adjust your attitude
Always be positive in situations and try to see the good side of things, instead of thinking it’s hard tell yourself it’s tough but I’ll do it. Don’t worry and let go of things you can’t control.
