Shoplifting (also known as boosting and five-finger discount) is a popular term used for theft of goods from a retail establishment. People tend to take things from shops without paying for them because they can not afford them. One always asks themselves if shoplifting is really the right answer to putting food in your stomach or getting what you want.

There have been a number of Shoplifting cases reported in South Africa, It’s not shocking to see that the worst precincts in most provinces when it comes to shoplifting are the big cities in each province, I mean there is more to shoplift from big stores compared to that of township stores.

The following is a list by ranking highest to lowest of the reported shoplifting cases in each province.

It’s not surprising that Johannesburg CBD is a part of the worst 3 precincts, I mean people go down there to find a job and get things at a cheaper to sell for 100% profit at the end of the day but for some almost free is not enough, get it for free or die trying to get it basically.

2. Western Cape-14662

A recent case reported about Mob justice against alleged shoplifters in Western Cape.

Western Cape police have launched investigations into the deaths of three men who died in alleged mob justice attacks on the Cape Flats.Two men, aged 29 and 32 were found dead in Kanana near Gugulethu with their hands tied behind their backs and rocks next to the bodies. A 31-year-old man was also killed in Phillippi.

“ …they are presumed to be accused of shoplifting  and burglaries, we can also confirm that  another body was found in Browns farm with multiple bodily injuries  and it is suspected to be a mob justice incident,” says police spokesperson Frederick van Wyk.

The killings come shortly after a Commission of Inquiry finalised a report into policing in Khayelitsha.  The commission was set up following similar vigilante killings in Khayelitsha a few years ago.
