10 Ways To Show Your Partner That You Appreciate Them
Many relationships don’t last not because there were major issues in the relationship but merely because one of them felt unappreciated. In most cases this is caused by the fact that we easily get caught up in patterns which ultimately become daily expectations of each other. This list is to steer you in the right direction if you are one of those who are filled with expectations and slacking on the appreciation part.
1. Speak up
Look into their eyes and tell them. Eye contact makes words of appreciation more meaningful and believable. Even though you may feel he already knows, hearing you tell him how much you value his support will reassure him that you recognize his efforts.
2. Note it down
Write a quick note to your partner telling them that you appreciate all the little things they do. Leave it where they will find it when you aren’t around, like in their lunch box or car. Or, send them a text or email saying you hope their day is going well and thanking them for treating you to a great dinner the night before. When they least expects it, remind them of how much you value him.
3. Yum!!!
Present your boyfriend with an edible treat. Consider giving him a fruit basket or baking his favourite cookies. Apparently the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach. Ask him what he’d like for dinner–let him choose the menu at least once a week.
4. Memories
Create a scrapbook of pictures showcasing your fun times together. Select photos of events that have special meaning to the two of you. Include captions that tell your boyfriend why you appreciate him.
5. Connect
Take long walks together. It slows you both down and allows you to connect and talk. Plus, it’s good for your heart. So go for a walk, hold hands, stop and smell the roses. If you don’t live in a walk-friendly area, then drive to one. And just walk.
6. Give in
Although this one may feel like its old school and overly done, take your partner out to see their choice of movies. Or, if you want more intimacy and privacy, rent one and let them choose. Try not to fall asleep and rub your fingers through his hair as you’re watching a movie.
7. Reception
Greet him at the door when he gets home–drop whatever you’re doing and go kiss him! This says “Hello, I missed you and welcome home.” It will be a surprise, but a pleasant one.
8. Brag
Brag about him to your friends when he can hear. He’ll love this but won’t say it out loud. It will give his confidence a boost and show him that you do take notice of all he does.
9. Compromise
Make an effort to work on any habits that annoy each other so that your partner knows that you are mindful of his/her feelings e.g. if it upsets your boyfriend when you text talk on your phone during dinner time, make an effort to turn your phone off.
10. Be there
Go out of your way when they need help. If your partner feels down or drained one day, be more thoughtful. Offer to do the chores rather than waiting to be asked. Let them take a nap or give them a message.
