About the Nelson Mandela Marathon
Under the theme “Rise. Remember. Run.,” the event that partnered with the Nelson Mandela Foundation took place in Cape Town. The 42-kilometre marathon route took in some of South Africa’s oldest town’s most famous sights. These included the historic District Six, Company Gardens and Bo Kaap within the first 10 kilometres. There were also coastal runs along the Sea Point Promenade and the road that traces the Table Bay shoreline to Milnerton’s Woodbridge Island. All proceeds from the marathon support the foundation’s work. Elite winners included Arthur Jantjies in 2:15:14 for men and Ethiopia’s Bize Beyira Negasa in 2:36:42 for women.

Mmeli was also among the runners, completing his debut full marathon. The reality show star shared a grateful post with his medal photo. How cool is it that the foundation congratulated him online. To him the race was a chance to show his resilience, amidst everything. Mmeli went on to thank all his supporters.
“42.2KM OF PAIN. 4 HOURS & 15 MINUTES OF PURE RESILIENCE. 🏅🔥
My first official marathon at the Nelson Mandela Marathon & what a battle it was! Every kilometre tested me, every step came with pain, and there were moments when my body wanted to give up, but my mind refused to let me.
This was more than just a race. It was a reminder that resilience is built when things get tough, when the pain kicks in & when quitting feels easier than carrying on.
Thank you for the support I got from the people, it was a blessing seeing every one of ya’ll.
42.2KM later, we got it DONE. 4:15:00 on my first official marathon. 🏃🏽♂️💨
It hurt. It was tough. It tested everything in me. But we fought, we endured, and WE DID IT. ❤️🔥
One for the books. The journey continues. 🫡,” Mmeli said.
