One case that managed to get the nation talking is that of runner, Elizabeth Tsontso Moselakgomo, who went missing on the 9th of September after going for a run. One of the hosts Sol Phenduka joked about joked about a runner getting kidnapped, while Tsontso was still missing. After an outrage from the public the media personality and musician apologized. He called the remarks an ‘unfortunate pun’ amid banter, apologized to her family, listeners, and the public, and acknowledged South Africa’s high femicide rates make such jokes distasteful.

Although Sol apologized, there are still individuals who feel he was reckless with his joke. One such is his former colleague from KAYA FM, Dineo Ranaka. The media personality called out Sol for dehumanizing Tsontso, at a time her daughter was vulnerable.
