Clicks Group is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for three temporary Shop Assistant / Cashier positions at Clicks Riverside Bryanston in the Johannesburg Metropolitan area. This opportunity is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with customers and are interested in gaining or building experience in the retail and FMCG environment. The successful candidates will be responsible for providing efficient customer service, handling point-of-sale activities, supporting merchandising and maintaining a positive shopping experience.

The Shop Assistant / Cashier position plays an important role in ensuring that customers receive professional and friendly service from the moment they enter the store until their purchases are completed. Candidates will be expected to work accurately at the point of sale, handle cash safely, assist with promotions and ClubCard activities, and help maintain attractive merchandising and housekeeping standards. The role also requires employees to remain knowledgeable about products, ranges, promotions and events so that customers can receive accurate and helpful information.

Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently execute all operational activities at the point of sale in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Scan merchandise correctly and ensure that all customer purchases are processed accurately.
  • Collect and process payments for goods purchased according to Clicks procedures.
  • Action ClubCard rewards accurately during customer transactions.

  • Remain visible and approachable on the shop floor and at the point of sale.
  • Provide customers with friendly, professional and efficient assistance.
  • Assist customers with queries and provide relevant product and promotional information.
  • Maintain updated knowledge of products, ranges, promotions and store events.
  • Ensure customers receive correct and up-to-date information when making purchasing decisions.
  • Execute merchandising activities according to store standards and visual merchandising requirements.
  • Maintain general housekeeping duties to ensure that the store remains clean, organised and presentable.
  • Support the store in maintaining high merchandising standards that enhance the customer shopping experience.
  • Follow established operational, customer service and merchandising procedures.

Requirements and Skills

  • Grade 12 is essential.
  • Grade 12 Mathematics with a minimum of 50% will be advantageous.
  • Grade 12 English with a minimum of 50% will be advantageous.
  • Previous experience in a customer-facing role within a retail or FMCG store environment will be advantageous.
  • A basic understanding of mathematics and calculations is required.
  • Knowledge of retail and FMCG environments will be advantageous.
  • An understanding of merchandising and promotional principles is important.
  • Knowledge of stock management procedures will be advantageous.
  • An understanding of customer service excellence is required.
  • Planning and organising skills are important for managing daily store responsibilities.
