Frontshop Assistant Opportunity at Dis-Chem Mooirivier Junction

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is looking for a Frontshop Assistant to join its Mooirivier Junction store in Potchefstroom, North West. The Frontshop Assistant will play an important role in delivering a positive customer experience while supporting the daily operations of the store. The position combines customer service, merchandising, cash handling, stock control and general housekeeping responsibilities. Accuracy is essential when processing transactions and managing stock, while strong communication skills will help you deal effectively with customer queries and requests.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the full range of products is available on shelves and neatly presented.
- Check shelf stock regularly and ensure products have not reached their sell-by dates.
- Restock merchandise when required to support maximum sales.
- Follow up on customer out-of-stock queries using the customer service out-of-stock list.
- Ensure customer stock queries are handled and resolved efficiently.
- Store delivered stock and stock pulled from the storeroom in the correct locations.
- Ensure merchandise displays, labels and pricing are accurate.
- Report price discrepancies to management.
- Maintain a neat, organised and tidy storeroom.
- Keep up to date with product knowledge to assist customers effectively.
- Restock merchandise and supplies when necessary.
- Assist with back shopping.
- Handle merchandise carefully to minimise losses.
- Receive, verify and process customer payments.
- Process cash, card, voucher, coupon and other approved payment methods.
- Exchange merchandise and accept returns when authorised by the Frontshop Leader.
- Process customer loyalty cards, including accelerated partner cards.
- Place cash in the drop safe according to Standard Operating Procedures.
- Ensure line voids and price changes are approved and signed by the appropriate authorised employee.
- Maintain accurate cash flow at all times.
- Rotate stock regularly and follow Dis-Chem stock control procedures.
- Report low stock, out-of-stock products, damaged merchandise and expired stock.
- Assist with stock file counts and general stocktaking.
- Report damaged and expired products immediately.
- Assist with loading and off-loading stock when required.
- Flatten boxes after unpacking stock and place them in the designated area.
- Establish professional relationships with customers.
- Provide friendly, helpful and courteous assistance and advice.
- Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
- Meet the company customer turnover-per-hour benchmark.
- Assist with training new and existing team members.
- Ensure outgoing stock, items and scripts are correctly scanned and paid for.
- Keep daily takings in the till drawer until they are placed in the drop safe according to company procedures.
- Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviour involving staff or customers to management.
- Maintain housekeeping standards throughout the store.
- Follow Dis-Chem policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Follow health and safety rules and regulations.
- Comply with the Dis-Chem uniform and personal appearance policy.
Requirements and Skills
- Grade 12, Matric or Senior Certificate.
- 0 to 6 months of retail work experience.
- One year of retail experience will be advantageous.
- Retail Business Management certification will be advantageous.
- Knowledge of retail operations and administration.
- Ability to identify potential issues and find appropriate solutions.
- Understanding of when and to whom problems should be escalated.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- Good verbal communication skills.
- Ability to answer customer questions promptly and professionally.
- Ability to follow established procedures and instructions.
- Ability to take personal responsibility for the quality and timely completion of work.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Basic computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook, will be advantageous.
- Sound numerical skills.
- SAP knowledge will be advantageous.
- Good customer service orientation.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

The ideal Frontshop Assistant should be comfortable working in a busy retail environment where customer service and efficient operations are important. You will need to manage several responsibilities during your shift, from assisting customers and processing payments to replenishing shelves and maintaining product displays. The ability to remain organised and accurate during busy periods will help you succeed in the role. A willingness to learn about Dis-Chem products, procedures and systems will also be valuable.

You will be expected to follow established procedures and report discrepancies, suspicious activity, damaged products and other issues to management. Because the role involves regular movement and stock handling, candidates should be prepared for a hands-on working environment. Special Conditions of Employment
Applicants must be willing and able to work retail hours. The successful candidate must be a South African citizen and will be subject to MIE checks, with no criminal record and a clear credit rating required. A driver’s licence and own reliable transport are also required.
The role can involve lifting and moving stock, loading and off-loading deliveries and spending much of the working day on your feet. Candidates should therefore be physically capable of carrying out the required retail and stock handling duties while following health and safety procedures.
