Dis-Chem Pharmacies Limited is looking for a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant to join its Blueberry store in Roodepoort, Gauteng. This is a permanent entry-level opportunity for a qualified pharmacy assistant who can provide professional customer service while performing pharmacy-related duties under the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist. The successful candidate will support the dispensary with prescription processing, medicine preparation, stock control, patient assistance and administrative responsibilities. Job Overview

The Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant will assist the pharmacist with specified services and activities within the permitted scope of practice. The role requires accuracy, professionalism and a strong understanding of pharmacy procedures and legal requirements. You will interact with patients, process prescription information, assist with medication preparation and support the efficient operation of the dispensary.

The position also involves maintaining accurate patient records, supporting medical aid claims, managing stock and ensuring that medication is handled correctly. Strong attention to detail is essential because prescription information, patient details, medication quantities and labels must be captured accurately. The successful candidate must also be comfortable working in a busy retail pharmacy environment and standing for extended periods.

Minimum Requirements

• Grade 12 with Mathematics at Higher Grade.
• Life Science and/or Physical Science with an average of at least 50%.
• Post Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
• Computer literacy.
• Sound numerical skills.
• Registration with the Pharmacy Council.
• South African citizenship or a valid work permit.
• Clear credit and criminal records.
• Driver’s licence or reliable transport.
• Physically fit and able to stand for long periods.
• Willingness to work within the direct personal supervision of a pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines within the permitted scope of practice and under the required supervision. You will also assist with the compounding, manipulation and preparation of medicines according to approved formulas and Standard Operating Procedures. Responsibilities include the repackaging of medicines and assisting with the distribution and control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines and scheduled substances.

You will assist with prescription preparation, including selecting, manipulating or compounding medicines, labelling products and supplying medication in suitable containers after the prescription has been interpreted and evaluated by a pharmacist. You will provide patients with appropriate instructions regarding the correct use of medicines and provide health-related information within your scope of practice.

• Report low or out-of-stock products to the responsible pharmacist.
• Report stock discrepancies and errors.
• Assist with scheduled stock takes.

• Assist with maintaining pharmacy housekeeping standards.
