Veli Ngubane Steps Down As Co-Chief Creative Office at Avatar Ad Agency and Here Is Why

Veli Ngubane Steps Down As Co-Chief Creative Office at Avatar Ad Agency and Here Is Why. Back in April Avatar Ad Agency was delighted to announce that Velokuhle ‘Veli’ Ngubane, their co-CCO was going to serve on the Awarding Jury for the Creative Data Lions at Cannes Lions 2026. A few months later, the award winning advertising agency has stated that Veli has stepped down.
Cannes is the Global benchmark for creativity, and Veli’s duties were to help the jury reward the creativity that resonates deeply with everyone. Avatar Ad Agency felt that their co- Chief Creative Officer, was going to be a strong voice for African Creativity. As a top 5 ranked CCO in Africa and Middle East they were sure he was bringing his many years of experience and insight to the jury’s deliberations. Sadly, that wasn’t entirely the case.
There is video is doing the rounds where a seemingly drunk Veli can be seen making some in appropriate remarks to two ladies. He rated the women’s beauty saying one is a solid 6 and the other a five. While having conversations with them, he flipped the Avatar badge to conceal the organization he works for.
After the video emerged on social media platforms ,Avatar Ad Agency released a statement. The organization shared that as of Wednesday 22nd July, Veli stepped down from his role as co- Chief Creative Officer. The founder and Group Chief Executive Officer Zibusiso Mkhwanazi will continue leading the business, and Phil Ireland will be the sole Chief Creative Officer. Avatar Ad Agency further distanced itself from the behavior of Veli.

Here is what social media have to say about Veli’s video and Avatar Ad Agency’s statement.
