Job Overview

The Receiving Clerk is responsible for ensuring that all stock received into the store is accurate, properly recorded, and processed according to Dis-Chem’s standard operating procedures. You will handle deliveries, verify invoices, inspect goods, and ensure correct stock distribution within the store. The role also includes managing returns, supporting stock control processes, and maintaining a clean and organised receiving area.

This position plays a key role in ensuring that the store maintains accurate inventory levels and that customers receive products that are correctly stocked and available on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Verify, scan and capture all goods received into the store system
• Receive warehouse deliveries and match them against invoices
• Inspect stock for damage, shortages or incorrect items
• Process returns for damaged or unordered goods
• Complete credit notes in line with company procedures
• Ensure accurate stock counts in terms of quantity, variant and condition
• Log warehouse claims and support the Receiving Manager
• Ensure same day processing of deliveries to the sales floor
• Maintain accurate receiving records and documentation
• Support supplier communication regarding discrepancies
• Assist with stock rotation and inventory control
• Maintain a clean and organised receiving and storage area
• Assist in managing high value and high risk stock items
• Follow all company SOPs and operational procedures

Requirements And Skills

• Grade 12 or Matric qualification
• Basic computer literacy
• Strong numerical and accuracy skills
• Ability to work retail hours, including weekends and holidays
• Physical ability to lift and move items heavier than 20kg
• Strong attention to detail and organisational ability
• Good communication skills in English
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Knowledge of receiving or retail stock control is an advantage
• Familiarity with stock rotation systems is beneficial
• Ability to work with suppliers, managers and team members professionally
• South African citizenship with clear credit and criminal record
• Reliable transport or ability to commute to store location
