Tyla Gushes Over Singing South Africa’s National Anthem at the FIFA World Cup Opening Game. On Thursday, Tyla made herself and the country proud when she belted out the National Anthem before kickoff. Mzansi Youth Choir enjoyed the moment with her as they provided some powerful backing vocals.
Just minutes before Bafana Bafana kicked off their 2026 FIFA World Cup match against Mexico, Tyla got to show the world what she is made of. The 2x Grammy Award-winning singer together with Mzansi Youth Choir performed South Africa’s national anthem during the tournament’s opening ceremony. This was t the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. Many are impressed with the performance, which saw the artists nail the lyrics, with perfectly harmonized voices. They also looked all sorts of stunning in their colorful outfits.
Although South Africa lost the game 2-0, this was such a proud moment for Tyla and the Mzansi Youth Choir. On her part Tyla shared that she takes it a blessing to sing the national anthem at such a major event. It was even more special that she did it with Mzansi Youth Choir. She also encouraged Bafana Bafana to be optimistic, as there are still two more games to be played.
