Pick n Pay is hiring a Production Assistant for its Durban North store in KwaZulu Natal. This full time role focuses on food production, packaging and quality control within a fast paced retail environment. The position is suited to individuals who are reliable, detail focused and comfortable working with perishable food products. You will support daily production operations, maintain hygiene standards and ensure products meet strict quality requirements.

Job Overview

The Production Assistant is responsible for preparing, manufacturing and packaging products according to company standards and daily production targets. You will work with meat products and ensure correct labelling, pricing and quality control at all times. The role requires accuracy, discipline and strict adherence to food safety procedures. You will also help maintain cleanliness, reduce waste and support efficient production flow. This role is key in ensuring customers receive safe, fresh and correctly prepared products every day.

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture, prepare and package products according to specifications
• Ensure correct pricing and labelling of all loose and packaged items
• Conduct regular quality checks on all products
• Remove damaged or expired stock from production areas
• Maintain cold chain procedures and monitor product temperatures
• Reduce wastage, shrinkage and product damage
• Maintain hygiene and housekeeping standards at all times
• Operate and clean production equipment according to procedures
• Assist customers and respond to product requests professionally
• Process customer orders accurately and on time
• Promote products where required to support sales
• Communicate clearly with staff, management and suppliers
• Follow all safety and security procedures in the workplace

Requirements And Skills

• Grade 12 qualification
• Must live close to the store or surrounding area
• Ability to work with meat production such as sausage and mince
• Strong communication skills in English
• Calm and patient under pressure
• Customer focused mindset
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Ability to follow instructions strictly
• Team player with good cooperation skills
• Physically fit and able to handle production duties
• Willingness to perform additional duties when required
• Able to work across store locations if needed
