Overview of the Role
Indigo Brands, part of AVI Limited, is offering an exciting opportunity for a Formulation Intern at its Epping facility in Cape Town. As a leader in the personal care and beauty industry, Indigo Brands creates, markets, and distributes globally recognised brands such as Yardley, Lenthéric, Exclamation, English Blazer, and Gorgeous. This permanent position provides hands-on experience in Research and Development (R&D), supporting new product formulation, testing, and quality compliance in a fast-paced, innovative environment.

Key Responsibilities
The Formulation Intern will assist the R&D team in the following areas:

• Laboratory Maintenance and Good Practices
  • Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment
  • Adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
  • Record and manage raw material documentation
  • Monitor stock of laboratory materials and components
• New Product Development Support
  • Assist in the preparation of formulations as per R&D requirements
  • Prepare samples for internal and external testing
  • Research potential new raw materials for product development
  • Support regulatory and compliance requirements
• Stability and Quality Testing
  • Conduct stability and safety studies on formulations
  • Evaluate product performance and report abnormalities
  • Assist in Quality Control (QC) testing and documentation
• Data Management and Reporting
  • Collate and maintain data from tests and prototypes
  • Compile mass, bulk, and base specifications
  • Develop and update manufacturing instructions and product safety records
  • Represent the formulation laboratory in relevant meetings and initiatives

Qualifications and Skills Required

• Completed Grade 12 / Matric
• Degree or Diploma in Chemistry or equivalent
• COSCHEM Diploma or equivalent qualification
• GMP and GLP experience is advantageous
• FMCG exposure and knowledge of the cosmetics industry is beneficial
• Strong laboratory testing knowledge and data management skills
• Understanding of ISO standards (9001, 22716, 1841) and quality principles
• Excellent communication, organisational, and analytical abilities
