Sector Specific Trainee Opportunity at Transnet Port Terminals East London

Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) is inviting applications for its Sector Specific Trainee Programme based at its East London operations. This 12-month structured training programme aims to develop a talent pipeline for key roles within TPT. The programme places learners in specific areas aligned with their academic background, career aspirations, and business requirements. Preference will be given to candidates residing in the Buffalo City Municipality.

Position Purpose

The training programme is designed to provide practical, hands-on experience while preparing trainees for future operational and technical roles within TPT. Trainees will gain exposure to terminal operations, cargo handling, equipment management, and safety protocols. This programme ensures participants acquire the necessary skills and competencies to support the growth and efficiency of port operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily tasks as specified per equipment.
  • Handle commodities according to operational requirements.
  • Complete logbooks and record equipment defects.
  • Operate data terminals where applicable.
  • Maintain work-related radio communication.
  • Monitor equipment performance and report defects.
  • Report incidents, accidents, and daily operational occurrences.
  • Operate safety equipment such as fire extinguishers when required.
  • Adhere to terminal safety policies and procedures.
  • Log on to the terminal operating system (Navis) and follow on-screen directives.
  • Acknowledge completion of tasks at the end of instruction cycles.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Grade 12/Matric is required.
  • TVET N6 in Logistics or Transport is advantageous.
  • Valid Code EB Driver’s License is essential.
