Pharmacist Intern Opportunity at Dis-Chem Riverside Queenstown

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering a Pharmacist Intern position at its Riverside store in Queenstown. This fixed-term contract provides hands-on experience in the pharmaceutical field, focusing on patient care, accuracy, and professional development. You will work under the direct supervision of a pharmacist while applying the knowledge gained during your BPharm studies.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric
  • BPharm degree
  • Computer literacy in MS Office

Advantageous Experience

  • Holiday work during studies
  • Knowledge of Unisolve and E-Scripting

Key Duties

  • Process Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicine sales under supervision
  • Assist with preparing non-sterile and sterile medicines according to approved procedures
  • Support manufacturing and repackaging of medicine
  • Manage stock distribution and control from Schedule 1 to Schedule 6
  • Assist in ordering medicine and scheduled substances
  • Read and prepare prescriptions
  • Select, compound, label, and supply medicine after a pharmacist evaluates the prescription
  • Provide patients with correct usage instructions
  • Promote health through accurate information
  • Capture prescription details and verify patient information
  • Pick, pack, and label medicine accurately with awareness of dosage and interactions
  • Give patients clear guidance on medicine usage
  • Stay updated on medical aid procedures
  • Ensure all scripts are checked and signed by a pharmacist
  • Assist patients at the dispensary, self-medication area, and front shop
  • Track scripts when requested by the dispensary manager
  • Explain medical aid costs clearly
  • Submit claims and correct medical aid rejections
  • Ensure authorization for chronic, HIV, AIDS, and oncology medication
  • Update and maintain customer profiles
  • Report low stock levels and errors
  • Take part in stock counts
  • Maintain stock and asset control
  • Follow Dis-Chem housekeeping, safety, and operational standards
