Phindile Gwala Proud of Her Daughter Who Recently Had Umhlonyane Ceremony

Phindile Gwala Proud of Her Daughter Who Recently Had Umhlonyane Ceremony. They grow up fast, don’t they! Just the other day, Phindile’s daughter Thato was a little girl, but now she is transitioning into this beautiful young woman.
18-year-old Thato just had her Umhlonyane over the weekend. This is a traditional ceremony that celebrates a girl’s first menstruation and marks her transition into womanhood. A week before the ceremony, the girl is kept in a separate room away from other people, where she will stay inside and comes out on the day of the ceremony. By the time she is in that room the elder women visit the girl to give advice and guidance on how to behave as a teenager (itshitshi – Zulu maiden).
Like any other parent out there, Phindile is over the moon, seeing this happen to her child.
“This past weekend, we celebrated my daughter’s Umhlonyane, and my heart could hardly contain the pride and gratitude I felt. Watching her walk with such grace, respect, and a heart anchored in God’s love reminded me of the beauty of raising a daughter like her. Thato, you are everything I prayed for and more. May God continue to cover your journey. I love you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ #UmhlonyaneWeNtombiNto #UmhlonyaneKaThato #UmhlakaThato #ZuluCulture,” the proud mother said.
