Food Technologist Graduate Opportunity at Cape Herb & Spice in Muizenberg

Cape Herb & Spice, a leading brand within South Africa’s FMCG industry, is offering an exciting Food Technologist Graduate opportunity based in Muizenberg, Western Cape. This part-time role provides recent graduates with valuable exposure to quality assurance systems, food safety standards, and hands-on operational processes within a dynamic production environment.

About the Role
The graduate will join the Quality Assurance Division and report directly to the QA Supervisor. The role focuses on supporting the food technology team to maintain and improve the company’s compliance with BRCGS certification requirements. The position offers structured learning in key quality control areas and real-world experience in a professional manufacturing setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the implementation and updating of BRCGS systems across the organization.
  • Participate in non-conformance investigations and communicate findings effectively.
  • Conduct environmental testing and allergen swabbing to ensure compliance with food safety standards.
  • Review testing results against product specifications and perform QC verifications.
  • Track glass and hard plastic incidents and trends.
  • Assist with customer service functions, including handling complaints, shelf-life extensions, and providing certificates of analysis.
  • Conduct GMP audits, monitor factory hygiene practices, and support production teams.
  • Participate in product and raw material tastings, as well as pre-shipment inspections.
  • Review and update quality procedures, ensuring continuous system improvement.
  • Engage in training, traceability studies, mock recalls, and supplier documentation management.

Qualifications and Experience

  • BTech or Advanced Diploma in Food Consumer Sciences, Food Technology, Food Science, or Biotechnology.
  • 0–1 year of relevant industry experience.
  • Prior exposure to HACCP, BRCGS, or internal auditing will be an advantage.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
