Casual Merchandiser Opportunity at Dis-Chem Mall of Africa

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting Casual Merchandisers for its Mall of Africa store in Midrand, Gauteng. This opportunity is part of Dis-Chem’s ongoing effort to build a strategic talent pool of reliable and motivated individuals for future openings within the company. The position offers hands-on experience in merchandising, customer service, and store operations within one of South Africa’s top retail pharmacy chains.

Purpose of the Role
As a Casual Merchandiser, you will help maintain Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards and ensure products are well-stocked, neatly displayed, and available for customers. The role also involves providing excellent customer service and ensuring compliance with store procedures and policies.

Minimum Requirements
Essential:

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Up to 6 months of retail experience.
• Basic computer literacy (MS Office).
• Willingness to work retail hours, including weekends and public holidays.

Advantageous:

• At least 1 year of retail experience.

Key Responsibilities

• Restock merchandise to ensure shelves are always full and appealing.
• Place stock in the correct location immediately after delivery.
• Monitor stock expiry dates and rotate items using the FIFO method.
• Report low stock levels, damaged, or expired items to management.
• Assist in stock counts and general stocktaking.
• Follow Dis-Chem’s planograms and store layout guidelines.
• Keep shelves clean, organized, and correctly labeled.
• Flatten and remove boxes after unpacking stock.
• Support merchandising displays and promotional setups.
• Maintain store cleanliness and merchandise presentation.
• Assist with loading and off-loading stock.
• Ensure products without barcodes are properly marked.
• Help with back shopping and new staff training.
• Provide courteous and professional assistance to customers.
• Follow up on customer stock queries using the customer service list.
• Wear the correct uniform and name badge at all times.
• Handle merchandise carefully to prevent losses.
• Comply with company health, safety, and operational procedures.

• Understanding of FMCG and merchandising standards.

• Ability to interpret ZMORE reports for ordering and stock management.
• Awareness of potential security or theft risks.

Special Conditions of Employment

• Must be willing to work retail hours.
• Physically capable of lifting and moving heavy boxes.
• Must have reliable transport or live near the Mall of Africa.
• Must be a South African citizen with a clear credit and criminal record.
