Role Purpose

The Casual Merchandiser will ensure that Dis-Chem’s merchandising standards are consistently maintained. The role involves stock management, store presentation, and direct customer assistance. The position plays a key role in ensuring that products are well displayed, easily accessible, and aligned with company visual guidelines.

Minimum Requirements

Essential:

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate
• Up to 6 months of retail experience
• Computer literacy (MS Office)
• Willingness to work retail hours

Advantageous:

• At least 1 year of retail experience

Key Responsibilities

• Replenish stock to maintain full displays and avoid out-of-stock items.
• Store and pack merchandise correctly and on time.
• Check sell-by dates and rotate stock using the FIFO method.
• Report low stock, damaged items, or expired goods to management.
• Count and record stock during regular stocktaking activities.
• Follow Dis-Chem’s store layout, merchandising plans, and planograms.
• Flatten boxes after unpacking and place them in the correct disposal area.
• Maintain clean, organized, and clearly priced shelves.
• Report price discrepancies promptly.
• Stay updated on new products and promotions.
• Build and maintain merchandising displays that meet Dis-Chem standards.
• Assist with loading and off-loading deliveries.
• Ensure all items are correctly labeled and barcoded.
• Support the team with back shopping and general floor activities.
• Help train new staff when required.
• Provide courteous and informed assistance to customers.
• Follow up on customer stock queries using the customer service out-of-stock list.
• Adhere to uniform standards and company policies.
• Minimize product losses through careful handling.
• Follow health, safety, and store operating procedures at all times.

Conditions of Employment

• Must be willing to work retail hours, including weekends and holidays.
• Must be physically fit to lift and move heavy boxes safely.
• Must have reliable transport or live near the Chilli On Top store.
• Must be a South African citizen with clear credit and criminal records.
