Social Media Weighs In On the State Closing Its Case In Senzo Meyiwa Murder Trial. In breaking news over a decade after his passing, the trial of Senzo Meyiwa has been wrapped up by the state. The marathon trial has been running for the past three years, with the hope that his killers will be exposed. Meyiwa’s family and the nation at large have been hoping for justice for a whole 10 years.
Meyiwa was shot and killed in Vosloorus at the home of his then-girlfriend and singer, Kelly Khumalo. Five men have been before the High Court in Pretoria for the 2014 murder of the former Bafana Bafana captain. The accused Bongani Ntanzi, Muzi Sibiya, Mthobisi Mncube, Mthokoziseni Maphisa, and Fisokuhle Ntuli have since pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder, illegal possession of firearms, and ammunition.
Now the high-profile case, has been wrapped by the case in the High Court in Pretoria. State prosecutor George Baloyi says while their case has been concluded, the defence is at liberty to call any of the witnesses who were not called in to testify.
Baloyi, said, “On that point, my Lord that concludes the leading of the evidence for state case. It is precisely THREE years since the state started leading evidence, we formally close the case.”
