Singer Rethabile Mourns Her Mother Winnie Khumalo. On Tuesday afternoon, South Africa received the sad news of Winnie Khumalo‘s passing. The veteran musician and actress died on Tuesday at her home after a short illness. She was only 51 years of age.
As soon as the news broke, many people took to social media to remember the fallen star. Among those who penned tributes are Winnie’s peers in the industry, who are as shocked as the rest of South Africa. Actor, producer and TV personality Zola Hashatsi, expressed his grief in a heartfelt post. He shared how Winnie came through for him in the industry, and how close they were.
Winnie’s daughter Rethabile Khumalo, has also taken to social media to mourn her mother. The award winning musician posted a death announcement on her Instagram, which has a short summary of her mother’s journey in the music industry. Above being a musician, Winnie is also described as a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt and cousin to her family. Her passing has definitely left a void in their lives, including the lives of her fans.
“Mama😭😭😭,” Rethabile said.
Winnie and Rethabile, shared such a close bond, mainly because of being in the same industry. The two did music together, attended major events together, and always hyped each other. Winnie also cared so much about her daughter, and did everything in her power to protect her.
In June 2024, Winnie shared on Instagram that Rethabile was fighting for her life in hospital, after one of her friends allegedly poisoned her. She stated that her daughter has been in hospital for almost a week, and already has had three operations. Winnie also asked the public to include Rethabile in their prayers, as she went through the most. The great news is that she recovered and was back at doing what she loves the most, which is music.
