Government Condemns the Planned National Shutdown
Government Condemns the Planned National Shutdown. Currently on the top of social media trends, is news about the highly anticipated National Shutdown. Come Monday 09, some citizens are planning to take to the streets, as a ways of airing their grievances with the government.
The National Shutdown has been fueled by Cyril Ramaphosa’s opening remarks at the South Africa-Nigeria Bi-National Commission in Parliament. The president said that he wants to see more Nigerian products on South African shelves and greater investment between the two countries. He regards the two countries as powerhouses who have every reason to strengthen their economic ties.
After an outcry on social media, the president clarified the misunderstanding. He explained that his statement was about the simplified visa process for Nigerian nationals.
Nonetheless, the planned Shutdown is still in full swing. Some bold personalities like Prince Kaybee and Lebo Keswa are in full support. Commenting on the shutdown, the government says such calls are meant to instill fear in the hearts of hard-working, peace-loving South Africans.

A year ago, there was another National Shutdown held by the political party Economic Freedom Fighters. The EFF called for the resignation of President Ramaphosa and an end to load-shedding. The leader of the EFF, Julius Malema, warned businesses countrywide to close their doors or risk being looted by them. Remarkably, load-shedding was suspended for the day.
