Social Media Users React to Mia Le Roux’s Miss Universe National Costume. The day that many waited in anticipation for, finally arrives. Mia Le Roux revealed her Miss Universe National Costume, at the Cape Town Fashion Week. The designed was by Gavin Rajah with input from iconic Ndebele artist Dr Esther Mahlangu.
The dress featured white cloud wings, crafted from feathers sourced by Cape Karoo International in Mia’s hometown of Oudtshoorn. These wings are inspired by Mia’s own journey, symbolizing her first spoken words after receiving her cochlear implant: “Look there, white clouds.”
Speaking about he dress, Mia said, “My national costume is a tribute to the diversity that defines my heritage. In my spirit, in my environment, and in the abundance of creativity that is being created and shared by South African artists, I resonate with the bold, colourful, and vibrant expressions that reflect our complexity.”
The general public, however, is not impressed by the outfit. They feel it says nothing about South Africa as a whole. Many also feel that the designer should now give way for other designers, who can probably do a better job.
