Danny Jordaan Appears In Court Over Theft and Corruption Allegations. Topping Twitter trends on this day is the South African Football Association. This comes after the organization’s President, Danny Jordaan found himself in a hot soup with the law.
Jordaan together with Gronie Hluyo (SAFA CFO), and businessman Grit Communications’ Trevor Neethling face charges of theft and corruption amounting to R1.3m. The three have just arrive at the Palm Ridge Magistrates Court, for their first appearance.
As expected social media is having a field day over the allegations. For years, many have complained about Jordaan, including those who play football professionally. They feel that the long arm of the law has finally reached him. Interestingly Super Fan, Mama Joy have publicly shown that she stand with Jordaan.
He has also faced other scandals, one of which is rape. In 2017, former ANC MP Jennifer Ferguson, alleged that Jordaan, raped her at a Nelson Mandela Bay hotel room 25 years ago. In 2018, she laid a charge of rape against Jordaan at Johannesburg’s Parkview police station. Jordaan, a former mayor of Nelson Mandela Bay, however, denied that the incident happened and has insisted that he is innocent. In 2017, he denied Ferguson’s offer of mediation between the two, saying it ran the risk of the public perceiving ”that there is a cover up away from the glare of public scrutiny”.
