The Hawks Now Involved In Chidimma Adetshina’s Citizenship Investigation
The Hawks Now Involved In Chidimma Adetshina’s Citizenship Investigation. Two weeks ago, the department of Home Affairs released a statement on their preliminary findings regarding Chidimma Adetshina’s citizenship.
Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber shared, “From the information we have uncovered thus far, the Department of Home Affairs can indicate that prima facie reasons exist to believe that fraud and identity theft may have been committed by the person recorded in Home Affairs records as Chidimma Adetshina’s mother. Adetshina herself could not have participated in the alleged unlawful actions of her mother as she was an infant at the time the activities took place in 2001. An innocent South African mother, whose identity may have been stolen as part of the alleged fraud, suffered as a result because she could not register her child.”
The person whose identity she allegedly stole has been traced and according to the Department of Home Affairs, the documentation backs up her citizenship. The department has paid a house visit to Chidimma’s mother, and has been issued with a legal letter to explain her case or face having her identity registration cancelled.
The department has identified three officials allegedly involved in registering Adetshina’s birth. One of the officials has since passed away, while the other two are under investigation.
The Hawks are investigating the matter.
