South African Actors Who Kill The Gay Character Part II. When it comes to acting, versatility is key. No sane actor loves being typecast. This allows one to play any role that comes along. South African television viewers have warmed up to having gay characters on television dramas now. Quite a number of our seasoned actors play the role so well. We have added more on the list of actors who play the gay character convincingly well.
JT Medupe
JT Medupe is currently killing it playing Leeroy on Smoke and Mirrors. Leeroy is a gay guy, who runs a hair salon. He is lovable and entertaining among other things. Leeroy was engaged to Mtheto (Kabomo Vilakazi) in the popular e.tv telenovela. Mthetho exited the show on Friday, 12 April 2024.
Brighton Ngoma
Brighton Ngoma is well known for his role as Quinton Nyathi on Scandal! He however decided to explore his versatility with a completely different role. The talented actor now plays a non-binary character on uBettina Wethu series. Watching him, one can tell that Brighton is having fun playing the queer role and he is also getting to know a lot about the LGBTQI+ community
Lunga Mofokeng
Lunga Mofokeng has been killing his role as Andile Dikana on The River, since the show began until it ended. The character is quite relatable to many people out there. As the only son born from a wealthy family, Andile was expected to carry its legacy. He however chose his own path as far as his personal life is concerned. Although Lunga didn’t have to look all girly-girly, he still killed the role nonetheless.
Mpho Sibeko
In the third season of Blood & Water, Mpho Sibeko joined the series. The talented actor played, Lunga Vezi, a character in a love triangle with Arno Greeff’s character Chris, who is bisexual. Although it was his first time playing such a role, Mpho nailed it.
