Thebe Magugu’s Heritage Capsule is back for its 3rd installment. 18 of South Africa’s most iconic women and men front the instalment, which is now available for limited pre-order on the fashion designre’s website.
This instalment explores “Lobola”, a traditional negotiation process in anticipation for eventual marriage. This is where the family of the groom approaches the family of the bride with an offer, traditionally cattle, contemporarily money, in exchange for the bride herself. This is meant to be symbolic rather than ownership, and the exact margins of this practice change from culture to culture.
Fronting this campaign are 18 South African leaders, among them from Professor Thuli Madonsela, Dr. John Kani, Nomzamo Mbatha, Pirddy Ugly, Boity Thulo, Ama Qamata and Thebe himself. Each of them has spearheaded their respective fields with their talents, skills and mind.
