Unskilled Labour Job Opportunity at the South African National Biodiversity Institute
The South African National Biodiversity Institute (SANBI) requires the services of hardworking and self-motivated individuals to render labour intensive support for the maintenance and development of the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden and its associated estate and nurseries.
Requirements
- The successful candidates must be willing to work independently as well as in a team.
- The nature of these positions requires hard and physical labour and furthermore applicants must be willing to work outdoors.
- Applicants must be S.A Citizens.
- They must reside within the local municipality where the Kirstenbosch garden is based (proof of residence will be required i.e. letter from the ward committee/ traditional authority or utility bill).
- An applicant must be physically and medically fit to do manual labour.
Key Responsibilities:
Among other duties, the successful candidates will be expected to perform manual labour including (Experience in any of the above work activities will be an added advantage) :
- Cleaning paths and walkways, general garden maintenance such as weeding, cleaning and planting, edging of beds, mulching and composting, removing of plants and clearing of overgrown shrubs, opening and cleaning of streams and removing fallen branches and tree stumps;
- Assisting with alien invasive clearing, and repairing paths and trails on the mountain, waste collection, erosion control, road maintenance, fencing repairs and maintenance
- Propagation of plants and performing specialized garden maintenance under supervision
- Cleaning of equipment and tools, cleaning inside and around nurseries, parking areas and buildings
- Adhere to health and safety requirements.
- Partake in training and development activities
