1. Hlengiwe Lushaba-Madlala was born on 3rd April 1982 in KwaMashu, Durban.

2. She attended the Durban University of Technology formerly known as Natal Technikon. In 2001, she graduated with a diploma in drama studies.

3. The award winning actress had been interested in theatre performance from the age of 5. However, she made her mind to focus on art when she reached grade 10. She has since become one of the best localy and internationally.

4. Her theatre credits include Far From the Madding Crowd, Lost in the Stars, Hairspray, African Queens, And the Girls in their Sunday Dresses, Touch My Blood, Modus Vivendi, Gogo and Big Sister, Curl up and Dye, Baron Samedi, Music in the Air, The Story I’m About to Tell, In the End is My Beginning  and  Sophiatown. 

5. Lushaba is also a force to be reckoned with in the small screen. She stared in Gaz’lam, Tjovitjo, Society as well as Greed and Desire. She has also appeared in the film District 9.

6. Currently she is killing her role as MaMchunu Shabalala in My Brother’s Keeper. She is the family matriarch, doing everything in her power to protect the Shabalalas.

7. Her hard work has not gone unrecognized. She has been honoured for her magical performances a few times. In 2006, Lushaba was awarded the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Dance. Also in the same year, she bagged the MEC Choreographic Award for Outstanding Original Work.

8. Apart from having an illustrious career, Hlengiwe is a wife and mother. She has been married for a while now.

9. The couple is blessed with four kids, three daughters and one son. The firstborn was born in 2001, and the last born was born in 2011.

10. Lushaba is the co-founding member of an alternative performance space called The Plat4orm.
