With Hilarious Memes Tweeps React to the 15th December Being Declared A Public Holiday. One thing about South African, they will find the fun in just about anything. Now trending on social media is the 15th of December, which has been declared a holiday by President Cyril Ramaphosa.
Last week it was all over the internet that the first citizen promised a holiday, should the Springboks win the Rugby World Cup. Well, the national rugby team did just that when they beat arch rivals New Zealand 12-11 in a closely contested final. The president was there together with some high profile personalities to witness the game.
Immediately when the final whistle blew, it was celebrations galore all over the country. People danced in the streets, at get togethers’, parties and any form of gathering one can think of. The fact that there was a rumor that Monday was going to be a public holiday, made the celebrations even more hectic. Sunday everyone had their ear to the ground, but the president didn’t say a thing regarding the holiday. On Monday, it was business as usual, as the masses went to their various work places.
The only major announcement that Ramaphosa made was the fact that he was going to address the nation Monday evening. It was not clear though, what the family meeting could be about this time. Well, interestingly enough, the president discussed the Monday holiday issue.
He said while many would like to celebrate the Springboks’ win now, this would disrupt a around about a million matriculants who are currently sitting for their exams. Ramaphosa thus moved the public holiday to Friday, December 15th. This will be the official public holiday earmarked to celebrate the Springboks historic Rugby World Cup win.
