Gqeberha The Empire Reportedly Not Returning for Season II
Gqeberha The Empire Reportedly Not Returning for Season II. The Eastern Cape-based telenovela, was introduced as a show that follows the life of polygamist and successful businessman, Luzuko Mxenge (played by Mbulelo Grootboom). He is married to three different yet strong women.
Bulelwa (Zikhona Sodlaka) is his first wife, Zimkhita (Zandile Msutwana) is the second and Nozuko (Bikitsha) is the 3rd. A few episodes in, Luzuko got himself a fourth wife, and his decision to expand the family brought out the bitterness his wives have long suppressed. The fourth wife is Anathi, a character played by Akhenime Mfenyane.
Everyone anticipated some hectic drama, more so because Luzuko has a big family with different need. Also the fact that Anathi and Luzuko’s first born son, Thulane Mxenge had an affair promised drama. At the moment she is pregnant with Thulane’s child, and Luzuko just found out. Acting from an enraged heart, Luzuko planned to eliminate his son and his wife. The two got involved in a freak boat accident, and searches to find them have not been successful. Thulane is played by Tembinkosi Ngcukana, a handsome young man with a growing fan base of females.
Luzuko’s son from his 2nd marriage Ntando, has also found out that his mother is having an affair with his father’s best friend, Msimelelo. Things are definitely going to get hectic, should Ntando not keep the secret.
From the get-go though, the telenovela was under fire for poor production. Viewers also complained about a redundant story line. Using social media to vent, viewers stated that Gqheberha has many talented actors, but it’s not living up to the hype. After every episode, there is always a complaint of some sort from viewers at home.
