Applications Open for the Law Society of South Africa Learnership Programme 2023

The Law Society of South Africa’s,  and SASSETA are offering an opportunity for university graduates to partake in a Work Integrated Learning Programme | Candidacy programme

Interested unemployed candidate legal practitioners can apply by completing the the online application form (link above), once you have submitted, you will receive a system-generated confirmation email confirming we have received your application with required document.

Please note that application will not be considered if all the required documents are not attached.

Instruction: Scan the required documents before completing the online application form – this is to simplify the process – also save it under the name of the document e.g., “Certified Fidelity Fund Certificate of the Law Firm”. See the list of required documents hereunder

Documents to Be Attached

  • Certified Fidelity Fund Certificate of the law firm
  • Certified copy of company registration of the law firm if applicable
  • Certified copy of candidate highest qualification, Degree, LLB etc.
  • Certified copy of the Identity Document of the graduates
  • Valid Tax Clearance Certificate of the law firm
  • Proof of residence
  • (Affidavit) Financial: Combined gross household annual income before Income Tax
  • (Affidavit) Social background: Priority is given to candidates whose social background has impeded access to equal education especially those from rural areas and/or informal settlements.
  • (Affidavit) Educational background: Candidates who have attended schools that are deemed to be disadvantaged but have nevertheless, obtained a University degree.
  • (Affidavit) Personal motivation why the candidate should be sub vented

In our effort to ensure that the selection process is fair, the following criterion for selection is recommended for consideration.

  1. Candidates should be 35 years and younger
  2. Eighty percent of the candidates should be black women
  3. Candidates or firms should not be contacted by selection committee members
  4. Candidates who have already registered their articles will be excluded
  5. Law firms that will host a candidate should submit a valid:
    1. Tax Clearance Certificate
    2. Valid Fidelity Fund Certificate
    3. Company registration/ Sole proprietorship
  6. Balance provincial representation of candidates and firms, including rural areas according to funds received
  7. Give priority to candidates from previously disadvantaged backgrounds ( Affidavit)
  8. Law firms should disclose how many candidates they already have in their employ, for a given financial year
  9. (Affidavit) Financial: Combined gross household annual income before Income Tax
  10. (Affidavit) Social background: Priority is given to candidates whose social background has impeded access to equal education especially those from rural areas and/or informal settlements.
