Fikile Mbalula Not Happy With the Amount of Money SAFA Gave Banyana Banyana
Fikile Mbalula Not Happy With the Amount of Money SAFA Gave Banyana Banyana. This past Saturday the South Africa women’s national soccer team, Banyana Banyana made the country super proud. They won their first ever Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, beating host Morocco by 2 goals to 1.
During the tournament, a lot of South Africans were impressed how the team played and asked the government to do right by the ladies. One of those is Bonang Matheba, who constantly took to Twitter to bash Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa. The media personality put the minister under pressure to reward the team accordingly or just reign from his post altogether.
The Confederation of African football will pay the South African Football Association R8.4 million in prize money. On top of that, Banyana Banyana who arrived on Tuesday, received a whooping R5.8 million, from Minister Mthethwa.
“It is going to be a law in this country that Banyana Banyana and Bafana Bafana will be paid equally,” Mthethwa said.
The South African Football Association gave the team R800k, something that did not sit well with Fikile Mbalula. He took to Twitter to slam the contribution and pleaded with Danny Jordan to do better.
“Why is safa giving banyana R800.000? I mean really ? Bigups to Minister Mthethwa for the 5m. President Jordan my safa president please up the stakes,” Mbalula said.
