Statement: Israel Matseke-Zulu on Why He Left Gomora. His coming to Gomora, was one of the most celebrated news ever. Sadly six months into his role as Don, Israel Matseke-Zulu left the Mzansi Magic much loved telenovela. Although he was the villain of the show, fans were not happy of his exit and took to social media to express their disappointments.
The Veteran actor played the character of Don, a has been who had to comeback to Alexandra Township, after life showed him flames. The now struggling Don had no choice but to return back to Alexandra , where a big part of his life was. Before moving out of Alex, Don had a relationship with Zodwa, (played by the talented Sannah Mchunu). The two former lovebirds had a son, Teddy who is played by the award winning Sicelo Buthelezi.
Over the past couple of weeks, Don has been terrorizing the streets of Alex with his car hijacking gang. He died after his baby mama, Zodwa pulled a trigger on him to safe Ntokozo, who he has held captive. When Israel assumed this role, it was mentioned that it was not going to be on a long-term basis. But the reality of the matter is that he left sooner than expected.
Ill-health has forced Israel to quit Gomora according to a statement he shared on Instagram. He asked to be written off the show to deal with a medical issue, that made it difficult for him to perform his acting duties to the fullest.
“It is true that I have been diagnosed with a disease, which severely affected the functioning of my legs making difficult for me to walk properly and function well on set during the filming. It also makes it difficult for me to perform as an artist or throw in those Ghetto Professors dance moves that you know me for when invited to gigs.
The growing demands of my job at Gomora made it difficult for me to give my all to the show due to this illness that effectively rendered me semi-crippled,” Israel said.
