Quite often news anchors are deemed boring and just too serious, but this Mama here made us appreciate the profession more.
Mam’ Grootboom, became one of the most loved news anchors in the country, and touched many people’s hearts for the 37 years, of her service. Many love how the celebrated news anchor and actress presented news in isiXhosa, and her use of humor to ensure viewers are entertained. She led the news cycle for the last time on Tuesday 30 March 2021, a day that will go down in history as memorable.
Although it is quite sad that a fave was leaving, many acknowledged what she has done in the industry, and chose to celebrate her with sweet farewell messages. It didn’t just end there with Mam’ Grootboom, she has just been honored with an Honorary Doctorate from Rhodes University. The legendary news anchor has been conferred with a degree of Doctor of Letters (D Litt). This is for her four decades of work in broadcasting and for the promotion of isiXhosa language.
