Being a celebrity or simply being famous has its own pros and cons. The common perception is that celebrities or famous personalities have everything in life and they make a lot of money. When they’re on the red carpet they look like they don’t have problems and their lives are perfect, NOT! Let’s remember that they are human beings like the rest of us, they do get hurt, frustrated and stressed out like us. For those who love being in the entertainment industry here are some Advantage and disadvantage of being celebrity.
The advantages of being a celebrity
Getting a special treatment everywhere they go
Celebrities get special tables at restaurants, best sit at theatres and VIP treatment at clubs or events. They get free parking at hotels or they cars are guarded at events.
Many opportunities arise when people become famous
Regardless of what they do in the industry they get a lot opportunities, like become an ambassador or spokesperson for brands (take people like Terry Pheto who was a brand ambassador for L’Oreal Paris and Bonang Matheba becoming brand ambassador for Revlon South Africa). Now many celebrities are becoming entrepreneurs after and while they have stardom.
Celebrities have fans (including Facebook, Twitter and Instargram)
Fans are the people who adore their celebrity idols. They can have celebrity crushes or even real life admiration for their idols. Fan mail and other forms of appreciation that celebrities receive can be inspirational, motivational and very humbling. After all, who wouldn’t like to have their own fans and followers?
A lot of celebrities are rich
Celebrities and other famous people are generally richer than the average joe. They have luxurious homes and cars, fancy gifts and expensive clothes, some feel fortunate enough to share their wealth with the less fortunate.
The Disadvantages of being a celebrity
Celebrities have no privacy
Lack of privacy is one of the biggest disadvantages of being a celebrity. Whatever they do outside their homes people know about it, like getting speed ticket, being a diva at mall and chill with their friends at restaurants everyone if not the world knows about the business.
Having Stalkers
We’ve all heard about those nasty cases of celebrity stalking that have gone out of control. Famous people are often followed or harassed by phone, email or messages by fans or followers who cross the line and become obsessed. Obsession can turn into threats and even physical harm.
Celebrities are constantly judged
They are judged for the clothes they wear, their bodies, make-up, personalities and cars that they drive. Newspapers, magazines, blogs, tabloids and social networks you can always find the rude, nasty, insulting, derogatory and lies about celebrity’s daily routine. It’s like we forget that they’re human beings, who are we to judge them for doing what they love?
Famous people can’t do things that the average person can
Celebrities and other famous people cannot lead lives of a normal person. They will have to live in their secluded world and will generally be unable to do things that the average person can. This disadvantage of being famous can stop celebrities from indulging in the little pleasures of life like Going shopping to the supermarket, take walk, chilling at the park with their friends, having dinner with family at the local restaurant and playing ball at the neighbourhood playground.
Having fake friends
For celebrity must be hard to find genuine friends, people who are there for you simple because they love you or they love hanging around with you. As we all know some people befriend celebrities because they have something to gain or they want something from them. Fake friends are sell-outs and dangerous.
