SA Celebs React to Tatjana Schoenmaker Breaking World Record and Securing South Africa’s First Gold Medal. South Africa is finally making a mark at the ongoing Tokyo Olympics. Tatjana Schoenmaker put our name up there when she pulled an incredible performance at the Women’s 200m breaststroke swimming finals.
Schoenmaker scooped the country’s first Olympic gold medal and set a new World Record in the 200m breaststroke. The 24-year-old timed 2mins 18.95sec to better the 2:19.11 set by Denmark’s Rikke Moller Pedersen in 2013. USA’s Lilly King took the silver and USA’s Annie Lazor took bronze. Another South Africa contender, Kaylene Corbett put up a great fighting spirit and finished at 5th place.
Our golden girl, Schoenmaker is currently receiving congratulatory messages from South Africans, fans, colleagues and the world at large after doing the country proud. Celebrities and high profiled people like Arts and Sports Minister Nathi Mthethwa, Panyaza Lesufi, Penny Heyns, Robert Marawa, Bonang Matheba and so many others took to social media to celebrate Schoenmaker .
