Somizi, Unathi and Many Other Celebs Join The Campaign To Support Caster Semenya #Istandwithcaster
Somizi, Unathi and Many Other Celebs Join The Campaign To Support Caster Semenya. She is one of the greatest athletes to come out of this country. Unfortunately Caster Semenya’s career has been followed by controversy for years now.
In 2018, IAAF issued new Eligibility Regulations for Female Classification (Athlete with Differences of Sexual Development) greatly impacting Semenya. The regulations require any athlete who has a Difference of Sexual Development to meet certain criteria in order to be eligible to compete in Restricted Events in an International Competition.
As if that is not bad enough, the double Olympic gold medalist has been banned from taking part at this summer’s upcoming 2021 Tokyo Olympics. Caster has a genetic condition known as hyperandrogenism, which means she produces a higher-than-average level of testosterone. The only way she will be allowed to compete if she takes hormone suppressing drugs.
Beauty brand LUX recently started a petition to overturn the IAAF’s ruling that bans Semenya from competing in any track event between 400m and a mile unless she takes hormone-suppressing drugs. Starting a protest with “I Stand With Caster.
On the animated the video, different women are shown with a voice over saying “LUX believes no woman should be judged for how they look. That no woman should be stripped of being a woman…” Then, in her glory, wearing a green top and shorts, Semenya starts running, crosses the finish line and raises a fist to celebrate her win.
Our local celebs and the nation at large have always stood with Semenya against this kind of bullying. Even in this particular fight, they are still standing with her. Celebs like Unathi, Somizi, Mpho Letsholoyane and Tumi Sole, have joined the camping. They have voiced powerful messages to show that they stand in solidarity with Semenya.
