According to SABC Iindaba, the veteran anchor will lead the news cycle for the last time on Tuesday 30 March 2021, from 19:00. The news of her departure was confirmed by her employer, the SABC on social media. Her fans and viewers at large immediately made her trend. Although it is quite sad that a fave is leaving, many acknowledged what she has done in the industry, and chose to celebrate her with sweet farewell messages.
Grootboom started at humble beginnings in the early 80s as a typist at SABC and made her way to the television screen. Throughout her career, she has been a significant contributor to the country’s history, having covered significant events such as the deaths of Chris Hani, Nelson Mandela and Winnie Madikizela-Mandela. In March 2019, the renowned newscaster made a guest appearance on the award winning 1Magic telenovela, The River.
