Applications Open For The Market Photo Workshop Head. The Market Photo Workshop is a division of The Market Theatre Foundation. It has played a pivotal role in the training of South Africa’s photographers, ensuring that visual literacy reaches neglected and marginalized parts of our society. The Market Photo Workshop is looking for a Head to join their organization.
Purpose
The Head ensures the:
- effective strategic and operational management of the unit
- development and implementation of a conceptual and artistic framework to guide the educational and public programmes of the Market Photo Workshop
- prudent and effective management of the staff and resources of the Market Photo Workshop
Key Responsibilities
Strategic and operational management of training, public and development programmes
- Drive the conceptualization, planning and development of operations, programme, and project plans.
- Ensure delivery of programme outcomes including quality management.
- Develop a medium- and long-term framework for quality management systems for the courses and projects of the Photo Workshop.
- Reflect on and review projects with Photo Workshop staff and the Advisory Board.
- Develop strategies towards fundraising.
- Participate in the strategic decision–making process of the MTF and alignment of its objectives.
- Develop and manage policies and procedures to limit risk and ensure health and safety standards.
- Produce operations and project reports.
Artistic and conceptual framework development and implementation of programmes
- Develop and strategize a relevant artistic and conceptual framework for the Photo Workshop’s public programmes.
- Consultation, implementation, and review of this framework.
Conceptual and curriculum framework development and implementation of training and development
- Develop and strategize a relevant conceptual and curriculum framework for the Photo Workshop’s training and development programmes.
- Consultation, implementation, and review of this framework.
Financial management of operations and programmes
- Develop business plans and budgets in order to address the needs of the Photo Workshop and its sub-units.
- Ensure optimal use of resources including financial, equipment, infrastructure and human.
- Plan and report on operations and project budgets.
- Assist in the fundraising management.
People management
- Manage and build an effective, cohesive and motivated staff complement.
- Ensure strategies of skills transfer and development.
- Implement performance management of staff and trainers at regular intervals.
Key Performance Measures
- Strategic development of the Market Photo Workshop’s operations and programmes.
- Development of the artistic and conceptual framework and implementation of programmes.
- Development of the conceptual and curriculum framework of the Photo Workshop’s training and development programmes.
- Operational and logistical planning and management of strategic operations and projects.
- Ensure proper financial planning and implementation.
- Manage staff, resources, infra-structure, and logistics.
- Reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE
- Relevant tertiary qualification – either in photography, arts & culture management, media, or social science. Preferably post-grad.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in photography, arts & culture, or media industry.
- Minimum 5 years’ proven ability in management of staff and resources.
- Proven ability of strategic and financial management.
- A critical awareness of the nature and role of photography and of the training and development landscape.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Must work well under pressure.
- Experience of working with an NPO and/or in a tertiary education institution would be an advantage.
- Compliment the skills set of the Market Photo Workshop.
