PARI-Nedbank Scholarships
The Public Affairs Research Institute (PARI) is excited to announce the opening of applications for a new Masters scholarship, intended for students interested in undertaking research on the South African state at the University of the Witwatersrand. This work can include historical work on government departments or administrations, economic research which explores state institutions – the incentives driving behaviour within the state, sociological research on public organisations and people working within the state. The scholarship is open to South African citizens. Topics of interest to PARI include, but are not limited to:
o An examination of South Africa’s transition, with a focus on the integration of the Bantustans into South Africa and continuities and changes from Bantustan and Provincial Administration – pre and post 1994.
o The relationship between traditional authorities and the structure of local government.
o Research on understanding the nature and performance of South African parastatals.
o Ethnographic work which explores aspects of the organisational life of a government department.
o Research which explores the Human Resource function in government, and how human resources have been organised, recruited and deployed within government departments and agencies.
