Kagiso Modupe Launches New Production Company. As the saying goes, “The comeback is always greater than the setback.” A couple of months back, Kagiso Mudupe went through the most with Bakwena Productions. The production company in partnership with Brenda Mukwevho was responsible for SABC 2 telenovela, Pimville. Sadly a few months in, Pimville, was at the centre of hectic drama. Production has been halted, and reports of non-payment of cast and crew surfaced. To date, the future of the telenovela is unknown.
Clarifying the Pimvillle Scandal
Since the scandal broke, Kagiso has been receiving backlash from the public and some industry peers. In May, the multi award-winning actor and producer finally decided to share his side of the story. Taking to social media, he revealed that Pimville is a collaborations between Bakwena Productions and Brenda Mukwevho. Kagiso further explained that he is not responsible for finances, and that he himself hasn’t been paid as a head director. He also shared that financial woes came in early days of the show, with workers not getting paid. When Kagiso tried to raise his concerns on the issue with his partners, he was told to stay in his lane. He stated that he is in solidarity with everyone who hasn’t been paid for their work in Pimville.
Picking Himself Up
Now he is back,with a bang! Kagiso has just announced a new production company called Modupe Studios. Under this new banner, Modupe is set to release a series of exciting new films. The new venture will also release a series of vertical micro-dramas, exclusively on HEKTIK streaming platform. Modupe is excited for the new chapter, and we can’t wait to see what he has in store.
“This work carries God’s voice, my vision and a fresh start,” Kagiso said.
