Job Overview and Responsibilities

The Work Integrated Learning Technical Learner will support various projects and operational activities within assigned departments or workstreams under appropriate supervision. The role is designed to expose learners to practical workplace processes while helping them develop technical, administrative and problem-solving skills.

Key responsibilities include:

• Assisting with specific projects within an assigned department or workstream.
• Performing routine operational tasks under supervision.
• Supporting administrative activities, including documentation and reporting.
• Participating in training sessions, workshops and mentorship programmes.
• Shadowing experienced professionals to gain practical workplace knowledge.
• Taking part in problem-solving activities to strengthen analytical skills.
• Interacting with customers, suppliers and internal teams to understand business requirements.
• Providing regular updates on assigned tasks and project progress.
• Supporting communication and collaboration within the workplace.
• Conducting research, data collection and basic analysis where required.
• Preparing reports and presentations using Microsoft Office tools.
• Assisting with process improvement initiatives.
• Following Transnet policies, procedures and applicable safety regulations.
• Maintaining professional and ethical standards at all times.
• Protecting confidential information and maintaining integrity in all assigned duties.

Requirements and Skills

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Matric certificate.
• B Eng Tech or National Diploma qualification.
• S4 to S5 completed theoretical coursework.
• Qualification or completed theoretical coursework in Electrical Engineering, Heavy Current, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Must be a South African citizen.
• Must be between 18 and 35 years old.
• Good written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Problem-solving ability.
• Strong attention to detail.
• Willingness to learn and develop professionally.
• Good interpersonal skills.

Preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants who are members of designated groups in line with Transnet’s Employment Equity Plan and applicable employment equity targets.
