Kgomotso Moeketsi Takes Matter to Court After Dismissal From SAFM. On July 15, Kgomotso Moeketsi’s contract at SAFM got terminated. This was after an internal investigation led by the station’s new programme manager, Ferdinand Mabalane.
The veteran broadcaster joined SAfm in April 2020 as part of the station’s refreshed lineup. She hosted the weekend music show The Seasons until her contract was terminated in July 2026. Kgomotso, who has close to three decades in the industry, has penned a statement detailing what led to her dismissal, and the way forward.
Past Issues Resurfacing
In her statement, its seems like she and Ferdinand had past issues. Kgomotso shared that, when Ferdinand was introduced to staff earlier this year, he publicly said he had contributed to his departure from Kaya FM years ago.
Recent Incidents Leading to Dismissal
Kgomotso also claims that a series of technical failures at the station preceded the disciplinary process. On May 30, while on air, a faulty equipment complicated the broadcast. Towards the end of the show, a listener asked for a song via WhatsApp, to which she ‘jockingly’: “Why don’t you play it for yourself though?” She then ended the conversation and deleted the message after an exchange of words.
The following day, she said, the station suffered a far more serious technical breakdown. This forced main control to take over programming for nearly two hours. According to Kgomotso, instead of technical issues getting addressed, the attention was on her conversation with the listener. This led to her suspension.
Engaging the Courts
Kgomotso is now raising funds to pursue a legal battle. She stressed that this is not about reclaiming her job, but about accountability.
“What I want is accountability and an independent assessment of whether the terms of my contract were honoured and whether the actions taken against me were fair,” she said.
