General Worker DAF Unit Opportunity at Grain Field Chickens Abattoir Reitz

As a General Worker in the DAF Unit, you will support the smooth operation of the abattoir by maintaining equipment, ensuring work areas remain clean and assisting with routine maintenance tasks that keep production running efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Clean the DAF unit, feather press, sump pit and feather area.
• Ensure all equipment is properly washed and cleaned according to company procedures.
• Report damaged or faulty machinery and equipment to shift controllers.
• Assist with inspecting broken shackles and yokes on the airline chiller during start-ups.
• Monitor machinery during production and report equipment failures immediately.
• Assist with replacing plucker fingers during scheduled weekend maintenance.
• Ensure valves, scrapers, screens and pumps remain in good working condition.
• Keep the sump pit room clean and prepared for production start-up.
• Ensure the feather area is clean and ready before operations begin.
• Clean and prepare the water sieve unit for daily production.
• Follow all company health, safety and operational procedures.
• Support production activities as required by supervisors.

Requirements and Skills

• Grade 12 or NQF Level 4 equivalent.
• Basic maintenance or machinery knowledge at General Worker level will be advantageous.
• Ability to work in warm abattoir environments with exposure to feathers and blood.
• Good physical fitness and ability to stand for extended periods.
• Willingness to work overtime, shifts, weekends and public holidays when required.
• Understanding of production procedures.
• Knowledge of health and safety practices, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Strong teamwork skills.
• Ability to work well under pressure.
• Reliable, hardworking and committed to maintaining workplace standards.
