Brights Hardware is looking for two General Assistants to join the Drive Thru Yard Department at its Brackengate business unit in Brackenfell, Western Cape. This is a permanent entry-level opportunity for candidates who enjoy working with customers, handling stock and working in a busy retail environment. The successful candidates will help ensure that customer purchases are loaded accurately and efficiently while maintaining high standards of housekeeping and stock control. The role also involves assisting delivery and transfer drivers, supporting stock movements and helping the yard operate safely and efficiently.

Job Overview

The General Assistant will play an important role in the daily operation of the Drive Thru Yard Department. The position focuses on providing friendly and efficient service to customers while ensuring that purchased products are correctly loaded onto customer vehicles, delivery trucks and transfer trucks. Accuracy is essential because the role involves handling stock, counting products, reporting shortages and preventing breakages or losses. Candidates should be physically fit, reliable and comfortable working in a hands-on retail environment.

The position is based at Brights Hardware’s Brackengate business unit in Brackenfell. It is a permanent position with an entry-level experience requirement, making it suitable for applicants who have relevant general assistant, yard, warehouse or retail experience. While one year of experience in a similar role is preferred, candidates who can demonstrate strong customer service skills, physical stamina and the ability to learn may also be considered.

Key Responsibilities

• Load customers’ vehicles promptly and accurately according to their purchases.
• Load delivery trucks and transfer trucks safely and efficiently.
• Ensure the correct stock is loaded and prevent stock losses.
• Stack and count stock accurately.
• Assist with pulling stock required for transfers.
• Report stock shortages to the appropriate supervisor.
• Report damaged or broken stock as soon as it is identified.
• Keep the Drive Thru Yard clean, tidy and well organised.
• Sweep and maintain the work area according to housekeeping standards.
• Assist customers with their purchases and provide friendly, professional service.
• Use product knowledge to assist customers with basic product-related queries.
• Bag stone, sand and other applicable products as required.
• Participate in perpetual stocktakes and assist with accurate stock counting.
• Maintain good housekeeping throughout the work area.
• Follow instructions from supervisors and complete additional work-related duties when required.
• Work with colleagues to ensure the yard operates efficiently during busy periods.
• Assist delivery and transfer drivers when required.
• Handle products carefully to reduce the risk of damage, breakages and stock losses.

Requirements and Skills

• Matric or an equivalent qualification.
• At least one year of experience in a similar role is preferred.
