Casual Frontshop Assistant Opportunity at Dis-Chem Ficksburg

As a Casual Frontshop Assistant, you will play an important role in delivering excellent customer service while ensuring the sales floor remains fully stocked, organised and visually appealing. You will assist customers with purchases, process transactions accurately and help maintain the high retail standards that Dis-Chem is known for. This position is ideal for entry-level candidates who are eager to develop their retail skills in a fast-paced and customer-focused environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure shelves are fully stocked, neatly presented and visually appealing.
• Monitor product expiry dates and remove expired stock from shelves.
• Replenish merchandise to maximise product availability and sales.
• Follow up on customer out-of-stock enquiries promptly.
• Store and organise delivered stock in the correct locations.
• Ensure merchandise displays, pricing labels and shelf labels are accurate.
• Report pricing discrepancies to management.
• Maintain a clean, organised and tidy storeroom.
• Stay informed about new products to provide accurate customer assistance.
• Assist with back shopping and stock replenishment when required.
• Handle merchandise carefully to minimise stock losses and damages.
• Process customer purchases using cash, cards, vouchers, coupons and other approved payment methods.
• Process authorised product exchanges and returns.
• Process loyalty card transactions, including partner loyalty programmes.
• Ensure accurate cash handling and follow drop safe procedures.
• Obtain approval for line voids and price changes from authorised supervisors.
• Assist with stock rotation in line with stock control procedures.
• Report low stock, damaged stock and expired products to management.
• Assist with stock counts and general stocktaking activities.
• Help with loading and off-loading stock deliveries.
• Flatten and dispose of packaging materials according to store procedures.
• Deliver friendly, professional and helpful customer service at all times.
• Report customer compliments and complaints to management.
• Meet customer service turnaround targets.
• Assist in training new team members when required.
• Ensure all outgoing items are scanned and paid for before leaving the store.
• Safeguard daily cash takings according to company procedures.
• Report suspicious behaviour involving customers or staff.
• Maintain high housekeeping standards throughout the store.
• Follow all Dis-Chem policies, standard operating procedures and health and safety regulations.
• Adhere to the company uniform and personal appearance standards.

Requirements and Skills

Applicants should meet the following minimum requirements:

• Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
• Between 0 and 6 months of retail work experience.
• Knowledge of retail operations and store administration.
• Good customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to solve problems and escalate issues when necessary.
• Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
• Ability to work independently while maintaining quality standards.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.

The following will be advantageous:

• One year of retail experience.
• Certification in Retail Business Management.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Numerical skills and SAP knowledge.
