Dis-Chem Pharmacies is recruiting a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant for its Bracken Garden store in Alberton, Gauteng. As a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant, you will support the responsible pharmacist in delivering high quality pharmaceutical care, ensuring that patients receive the correct medication, professional advice and outstanding service. You will also assist with dispensary operations, medication management and maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations.

About the Role

The successful candidate will assist with the dispensing of medication, pharmaceutical administration, stock management and customer service while ensuring compliance with the Medicines Act and South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) regulations.

This role requires strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills and a commitment to delivering safe and accurate pharmaceutical care.

Key Responsibilities

As a Post Basic Qualified Pharmacist Assistant, your duties will include:

• Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 and Schedule 2 medicines and scheduled substances.
• Assist with the compounding, preparation and repackaging of non sterile medicines according to approved procedures.
• Support the manufacturing of non sterile medicines under the supervision of the responsible pharmacist.
• Assist with ordering, receiving and controlling dispensary stock.
• Support the distribution and control of Schedule 1 to Schedule 5 medicines.
• Accurately interpret prescriptions within SAPC legal requirements.
• Capture prescription details and verify patient information on the pharmacy system.
• Prepare, label and pack medication accurately for pharmacist verification.
• Provide patients with clear instructions on the safe use of medication.
• Assist patients with self medication and front shop healthcare queries.
• Explain medical aid costs and assist with claims processing.
• Correct rejected medical aid claims where necessary.
• Process authorisations for chronic medication, HIV and AIDS treatment and oncology medication.
• Maintain accurate customer profiles and patient records.
• Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Dispensary Manager.
• Receive and merchandise dispensary stock according to FEFO principles.
• Participate in stock takes and maintain stock, cash and asset control.
• Promote good health by providing accurate healthcare information to customers.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must have:

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Basic Pharmacist Assistant qualification.
• Registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
• Working experience using Unisolv.
• Computer literacy in Microsoft Office.
• Sound numerical skills.
• Strong command of English and a second language.
• Willingness and ability to work retail hours.

Advantageous Qualifications and Experience

The following will be beneficial:

• Knowledge of Retail or FMCG operations.
• Ability to communicate in a third language.
• Experience with SAP and E Scripting systems.
• Knowledge of complementary medicine, family planning and drug information.
