John Legend Feels Privileged to Join The Road Home, A Musical Drama About Jazz Legends Miriam Makeba and Hugh Masekela. The Road Home, a musical drama about our very own Hugh Masekela and Miriam Makeba, is currently in production. It stars the massively talented Thabo Rametsi as bra Hugh and Academy Award nominee Cynthia Erivo Mama Makeba, better known as ‘Mama Africa’. There is also Academy Award nominee Guy Pearce as Archbishop Trevor Huddleston, and Johnny Flynn as Paul Simon.
There is another global star who has just been added to the incredible cast. John Legend will portray legendary American singer, actor and civil rights activist Harry Belafonte. The EGOT winner describes as a deeply personal role,and is excited to play it.

The story behind The Road Home
Directed by Academy Award winner Bill Condon, The Road Home is based on a screenplay by Michael Bronner from a story developed with celebrated South African author Zakes Mda. Zakes also contributed story research after spending years documenting Hugh’s life and legacy. The film explores a pivotal chapter in South Africa’s cultural and political history. It follows exiled trumpeter Hugh as he finds himself caught between his loyalty to the anti-apartheid movement and his friendship with Paul Simon during the controversy surrounding Simon’s landmark Graceland album.
